Mother and daughter, Julie and Iona, have put their talents together to create a collection of quality books and audio for children to enjoy discovering and learning a new language.
Being a French native and a mother of two, I have spoken, sung and read stories in French to my children since birth. They are now happily speaking and singing in both French and English and I am amazed to see how easily they can grasp both languages at the same time.
I am a La Jolie Ronde licensee and have been teaching French to children with La Jolie Ronde, face-to-face and online, since 2012. In our classes, we teach the language through stories, songs and games and they are a fantastic and efficient way for children to learn a language.
I have always had a keen interest in languages and as well as teaching French to children, I am a translator and a member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIoL). I have revised and proofread the new edition of La Jolie Ronde's programmes and materials from 2014 to 2020.
My interest in books started in my early childhood. I loved holding a book, looking at the pictures, hearing the story being read to me, learning to read. When my children were at primary school, I volunteered to come in and read French stories to different classes regularly. When looking for books to read to young language learners, I struggled to find books with accessible stories. It sparked the idea to create my own books. Having a podcast episode to go with the book is a great way to give free access to the audio while adding another dimension to the language learning.
It is also an amazing opportunity to work with my lovely daughter Iona. She is a fantastic illustrator and I am immensely proud for her to be able to showcase her work in our books.
I have always loved to draw. I like exploring new media like painting, sculpting, sketching, digital drawing etc.
To pass time, I will always go to my room and relax by doing art. I love to make my own art projects that will take me some time to complete as it keeps me busy.
I have always liked to look at tiny details in picture books as it shows me what is going on. It’s a dream to actually make one myself and even better I can do it with my mum.
Celebrating the release of our very first Children's French book and podcast for young language learners!
